Southern Yonkers is located on the Hudson River, and home to celebrated breweries, pubs, pizzerias, waterfront eateries, casual take-out or upscale dining. A diverse artistic community with outdoor murals by emerging artists adorn many of the downtown buildings, public sculptures are scattered throughout the area, a host of downtown galleries, art centers with free classes, and a First Thursday Gallery Hop.
But, the true uniqueness of the area is the Saw Mill River, which now, after nearly a century beneath the streets of Downtown Yonkers, flows in broad daylight. A nearly complete project, rare and never done before, includes the creation of natural habitats and native vegetation that will serve to help sustain the local aquatic life.
A short walk will bring you to the Yonkers Metro-North train station, with a quick 28-minute commute to Grand Central. Also nearby is the Riverwalk along the Hudson with views of the New York City skyline and the Palisades.
